3 Simple Stretches To Help With Tennis Elbow...

One of the tennis elbow home cures you can undergo is the use of stretches. These can be done anywhere and at any time you have the opportunity to.

Why stretching???

If you don't know already tennis elbow is a tendon injury which means it gets less oxygenated blood than other muscles would which in turn will lengthen your recovery time. Stretches are a great way to help because doing these will increase blood flow throughout the body which in turn will help your arm get the blood needed for a quicker recovery and even will help to reduce tennis elbow pain.

What stretches to do...

  • Clasp Stretch
For right-handers (lefties do this in reverse)
1. Place your arms straight in front of you
2. Put your right arm over your left and interweave the fingers (if the pain is on the left put your left over the right)
3. Now slowly pull on the right hand (towards the ceiling) with the left had
4. Now hold this for 30 seconds keeping you r right arm locked in place

You should aim to do this stretch 3 times in the morning and 3 times in the night.

  • Towel Stretch
For this exercise you will need to grab yourself a small towel

1. Stretch the towel behind your back holding both ends (one behind the head the other at the lower back)
2. With the higher hand slowly pull upwards until you get to as far as you can go
3. Now slowly pull the lower hand until you can go no further
4. Repeat this exercise 5 times

  • Pole stretch
For this stretch you will need a broom or a pole that you can easily pick up.

1. With the arm outstretched (the one that feels tender), hold the pole straight in that hand 2. Slowly tilt the pole downwards without moving the arm, just the wrist 3. Bring the pole back up 4. Repeat this 20 times 2-3 times every day

These stretches are great to incorporate with tennis elbow home cures and also tennis elbow exercises so make sure you include them in your routine.

Tennis Elbow Home cures - Alternatives To Painkillers

Painkillers and other medication which is prescribed to you by the doctor to help you with your injury may do more harm than good which is why you need to take a look at some tennis elbow home cures.

Painkillers & Anti-Inflammatory Medication

If you consulted a doctor before starting your treatment for tennis elbow then you may have been given painkillers (to relieve the pain) and anti-inflammatory medication (to reduce any inflammation). People who use this medication normally end up masking over their injuries instead of actually healing it which is why medication should be used sparingly. Also by using the two medications it is not common to start feeling sick.

Alternative Home Medication

As an alternative to using medication which is prescribed by your doctor to mask the injury you can always use Tennis Elbow Home Cures that won't mask up the injury but will help you CURE IT!

The best thing you can do for pain and inflammation is to use a homemade ice pack. All you have to do is apply the pack on the area (just below the elbow) for 15-20 minutes 3-5 times a day (2 hours break between the applications). By doing this you will not only reduce the inflammation in your arm but you will also reduce the pain as well.

This method is great as it doesn't have any side-effects and doesn't mask up the injury like the medication given to you by your doctor.

Cure Tennis Elbow - Should you use a counter-brace? Answers here!

Some of you may have heard the argument between using a counter-brace and not using one to cure tennis elbow. In this post I'm going to break it down to help you understand which option you should be taking.

What is a counter-brace?
A counter-brace is a small medical device which is placed just under the elbow and this helps spread the pressure across your arm which in turn relieves the pain in your arm. You're probably thinking "what is wrong with that?!" well let's break down the arguments.

Pro counter-brace argument
The tenis brace is a good method to cure tennis elbow as the mechanism is specifically designed to relieve the pain that is felt in the arm.

Anti counter-brace argument
The brace is a chunky design which in turn limits the amount of movement of the arm. This in turn elongates recovery time as scar tissue is formed as the injury is healed and when you move your arm around you will break this tissue and will be back at square one again!
-------

As you can tell both of these have a good argument so which one should you use to cure tennis elbow?

As many of you may know tennis elbow is not just limited to tennis players but to painters, plumbers, bodybuilders and many more people and what has been recommended is that you should avoid wearing a brace where ever possible and to instead move your arm as much as possible. HOWEVER if you are at a job that involves a lot of movement then a brace is something you will need otherwise you will just worsen the injury!

When you are not wearing the brace and are feeling pain then just pop on an ice pack which is a natural way to cure tennis elbow pain and reduce the inflammation too!
